Allow Responsible Ownership of XL Bully's in Council accommodation

Allow Responsible Ownership of XL Bully's in Council accommodation
The Issue
Our six-month-old XL Bully puppy, Frank, is more than just a pet - he's a cherished member of our family. Just a few weeks after welcoming him into our home, we were devastated to learn that the Goverment were considering a ban on this breed. Despite our efforts to be responsible pet owners – providing a secure garden for Frank to play in, beginning muzzle training, and committing to neuter him when he reaches the appropriate age and exempting him – we've been told we are unable to keep him in our home due to the ban. We appreciate that he looks like a cane corso, as did his dad as a pup but unfortunately for him he is an XL Bully.
This potential ban disregards the fact that breed-specific legislation has been widely criticized by animal welfare organizations such as RSPCA and Dogs Trust for being ineffective at preventing dog attacks or promoting public safety (source: RSPCA and Dogs Trust statements). It also ignores research showing that how dogs are treated and trained by their owners has far more influence on their behavior than their breed (source: Journal of Veterinary Behavior).
We urge Eastbourne borough Council to reconsider this blanket ban and instead promote responsible pet ownership. We're willing to comply with any reasonable regulations put forth but believe it's unjust for all owners of XL Bullies like Frank – who have shown no signs of aggression or danger –to be penalised due simply to their breed.
Please join us in urging Eastbourne borough Council not only for Frank's sake but also for all responsible pet owners who love their dogs regardless of breed. Sign this petition today!
