The Issue

As a Registered Behavioral Technician, I've had firsthand experience witnessing the negative effects stemming from the lack of support for students needing behavioral assistance in our schools. Too often, I've seen children struggle without the guidance and expertise they need, leading to setbacks in their learning and social development. It's heartbreaking to know that with just a little more support, these children could thrive.

Currently, many students within the Clark County School District (CCSD) are missing out on the opportunity to benefit from having a qualified behavioral technician right by their side. Registered behavioral technicians are trained professionals with the skills to guide and support children with diverse needs. However, due to current policies, they are not permitted to accompany their clients within the school setting, leaving a gap in the much-needed continuity of care.

The benefits of having Registered Behavioral Technicians (RBTs) in schools cannot be overstated. These professionals are equipped to handle behaviors that teachers may not be specialized in managing, they provide tailored one-on-one support to ensure each student's unique needs are met, and most importantly, they help create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that can lead to better academic and social outcomes for all students.

Research shows that inclusion and direct support from trained professionals significantly improve the educational experiences and outcomes of students with behavioral challenges. By allowing RBTs in schools, we not only support individual students’ progress but also foster an educational environment where all students can feel safe and supported in their learning journey.

Furthermore, the presence of RBTs relieves some of the pressures faced by teachers, allowing them to focus more on teaching rather than behavior management. This collaboration can lead to a more effective educational setting, benefitting students and faculty alike.

I urge the decision-makers within the CCSD to revise the current policies and allow RBTs to accompany their clients in schools. This change will not only support those who need it the most but will also demonstrate a commitment to creating an inclusive and progressive education system.

Please sign this petition to help us bring about this essential change for the betterment of all students within the CCSD, ensuring an inclusive and supportive learning environment for everyone.
