Allow Raw Milk and raw milk product sales in Alabama

The Issue

Alabama is a farming state. We have farmers, we are farmers, and we need more farmers.
The current cottage laws and food laws prevent the sale of milk and cheese that is not grade A pasteurized to even be given as a gift. Most small farms and homesteads can’t do that. We can’t afford the equipment and there is so little online about the standards used In pasteurization that small farmers can’t make money off of it. This stifles the economy, discourages new farmers like myself, and forces people to go out of business with the rises in inflation lately.

Drinking raw milk and eating cheese made from raw dairy does have a risk to it, but the consumer should take that risk, not have it moderated by the state’s government.

In this revision of the law, I propose that those who sell raw dairy and it’s products must have a sign up with the warnings about raw dairy and it’s products, not including products that are not for consumption. People should be aware of the risks and make informed decisions, not have their decisions taken away by the state government.

We should fight for the rights of those that bring us food to our tables and drink in our glasses. If you look at the average age of farmers, the age is getting higher and higher. There’s very little young interest in this lifestyle anymore, and for those of us that can’t do other lifestyles (Me! Disabled and can’t work a regular job) Farming could be our only source of income. We need to encourage growth, not snuff it out.

In light of all this, I humbly ask you to join my petition to get raw dairy products protected under cottage law. Or at least a compromise of some sort.

Thank you.
