As a woman who grew up in a controlling, white, male-dominated religious cult, I had to fight my way out as a teenager and then again later in life for any real sense of self, freedom or belonging. The thing that inspired me to fight, was the belief that the world outside was better. I believed I was fighting for an opportunity to live a life in a greatly diverse and beautiful country that strives toward greater inclusivity, kindness, and the betterment of all humankind. I had to believe that we as a nation had learned much from our horrific failures of past generations as a nation, and that we were working towards righting those wrongs and creating a better future for all Americans.

The future of our country greatly concerns me at the present, for I see great tragedy on the rise instead of what I believed the world could be. I see yet another tyrant determined to make his mark, rising up, willing to dance on the rights and freedoms of others with no concern for the consequences. 

As a deeply concerned U.S. citizen, I have been deeply disturbed by the divisive state of our nation following the recent election regime. It is clear that this unrest is a direct by-product of the current political landscape. It is with this in mind that I am seeking support for a revision to U.S. law to allow former President Barack Obama to serve a third presidential term. 

President Obama's leadership was marked by a significant reduction in unemployment rates with a decrease from 7.8% in January 2009 to 4.7% by the end of his term in January 2017 (Bureau of Labor Statistics data). Additionally, his efforts towards international diplomacy were recognized with the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009.

There's a precedent of President Donald Trump himself suggesting a potential third term, and yet, constraints preventing a third term persist. To address our nation's challenges, we require a proven and stable leadership, which President Obama has demonstrated during his previous terms.
