Allow my father to reunite with his family in Australia, after 14 years.

The issue

I am writing to draw attention to an issue that is deeply personal yet resonates with countless families worldwide - the right to family unity. My father  Ali Ashkan, has been separated from our family for far too long as 14 years, despite our status as permanent residents in Australia. This ongoing separation has taken an emotional toll on all of us, and we believe it is time for change.

Living apart from a family member, especially a parent, can be one of the most challenging and heart-wrenching experiences. It is well-documented that family unity plays a crucial role in the psychological well-being and stability of all family members, particularly children. Numerous studies have shown that children tend to thrive better in academic settings and social environments when they have the emotional support of both parents. The current immigration policies, however, pose significant barriers to reuniting families on humanitarian grounds.

The Australian immigration system has been efficient in many respects, yet there is room for improvement when it comes to family reunion. We are appealing to the Australian government and the Department of Home Affairs to consider and support family reunification applications more compassionately and efficiently. Changing the current policies to expedite reunion processes for permanent residents' family members would not only be humane but would strengthen the social fabric of our nation.

To facilitate this change, we urge the relevant authorities to:
1. Implement a streamlined process for family reunification applications for permanent residents.
2. Prioritize cases involving long-term separation and emotional hardship.
3. Reduce the bureaucratic backlog that hampers timely processing of these applications.
4. Introduce support systems for families during the transitional period awaiting reunification.

We believe that Australia stands as a beacon of hope and fairness, and by addressing the issue of family separation, we reinforce these values. It is crucial that the policies reflect the country's commitment to family values and human rights. Please join us in signing this petition to urge the Australian government to take compassionate action. Together, we can make a difference and bring families back together.
