Allow More Graduation Chords, Stoles and Cap Decorations in Hillsborough County

Allow More Graduation Chords, Stoles and Cap Decorations in Hillsborough County
The Issue
As a proud student of the Hillsborough County Public Schools District, I have dedicated my high school years to various clubs and activities. My commitment has resulted in great success across these clubs. However, current graduation regulations of the county limit me to wearing only two chords and one stole at the ceremony - a restriction that fails to fully represent my achievements.
Furthermore, these regulations prohibit cap decorations or throwing caps at the end of the ceremony. These traditions are not just fun; they are symbolic acts of celebration for our hard-earned accomplishments.
Graduation is more than just an event; it's a milestone that should accurately reflect our journey through high school. Each chord represents countless hours of dedication and hard work. Each stole symbolizes honor and pride for our country.
According to the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), allowing students to display their achievements can enhance their sense of accomplishment and boost self-esteem. Moreover, traditions like cap decorating or throwing can make graduation ceremonies more memorable (American Psychological Association).
I urge my county to reconsider these restrictions so that students like myself can fully express their pride on this momentous occasion. Let us wear as many chords as we've earned, let us represent our country with additional stoles if we choose so, let us decorate our caps as symbols of individuality and joy.
Please sign this petition if you believe every student's success should be fully recognized during graduation ceremonies.
