Allow Middle School Students In Cherokee County to Use Phones In School for Better Contact

Allow Middle School Students In Cherokee County to Use Phones In School for Better Contact
The Issue
With a deep sense of urgency, I am raising this issue as a middle school student struggling with the rigid phone use rules in our school system here in Cherokee County, GA. Communication between home and school has become a tedious process due to these rules, imposing unnecessary burdens on students and parents alike.
I find it especially demanding when I need to ask my parents simple questions about the after-school arrangements or seek their guidance on daily matters. Teachers at times require us to walk to the office just to make a call, a task which could have been accomplished easily and quickly through a text message. This invariably consumes more time and raises barriers to efficient communication.
Moreover, lunchtime, our only break from academic rigors, should be a time when we can relax, catch up with friends, and rejuvenate. But the enforcement of strict phone rules prevents us from enjoying this recess to its full potential. A simple text exchange with friends can go a long way in enhancing our school-life balance and ultimately contribute towards a healthy learning environment.
Research supports this, asserting that appropriate cell phone use can actually bolster academic success and social learning in middle schools [source: American Psychology Association]. Ensuring a delicate balance between fair-use policy and rules can enable the school system to leverage the advantage of technology for effective communication and overall well-being of students.
In the light of these concerns, I urge the Cherokee County School Board to review and revise our current phone policy. Allow middle school students like myself to use phones for communication during school hours, especially during transitions and lunch, thereby promoting better connectivity between parents, students, and educators. Please, sign this petition to endorse our cause for better communication in Cherokee County Schools.
(By the way this was not created by ChatGpt. I’m sorry the confusion but I am in High School level ELA/lit comp. This was all written by me! Thank you for the support!!)
