Allow light therapy for licensed nail technicians in Ohio
The Issue
As a nail technician in Ohio, I have dedicated my career to improving not only the appearance but also the health of my clients' nails and feet. Every day, I witness how conditions like dryness, inflammation, and discomfort can negatively impact their confidence and overall quality of life. It is disheartening to see the beauty and wellness industry make significant advancements while the regulations governing nail technology in Ohio remain outdated.
The beauty industry has witnessed a revolutionary expansion in the use and efficacy of light-based therapies. Devices such as LED red light therapy and low-level light therapy have become integral in addressing various skin and health issues. These therapies have shown to reduce inflammation, improve skin condition, and promote overall wellness. Despite these benefits, Ohio regulations still restrict licensed Nail Technicians from incorporating these innovative, non-invasive treatments into their services.
Recognizing and permitting the use of light-based therapies would not only enhance the quality of care we provide to our clients but also ensure that nail technicians in Ohio are at the forefront of industry practices. Allowing us to meet our clients' demands by using these therapies under appropriate guidelines will both aid in their wellness and propel our profession forward.
I respectfully urge the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology and state legislators to revise current regulations to reflect these advancements in beauty and wellness. Updating the rules to allow licensed Nail Technicians to use light-based therapies as part of manicure and pedicure services acknowledges both the evolving needs of our clients and the industry's trajectory towards integrated wellness care.
This isn’t just about adding a trend—it’s about being able to use a safe, non-invasive tool that estheticians are already permitted to use, so I can stay competitive, meet client demand, and continue growing my business responsibly within regulation.
For me, this is about fairness in scope, protecting my clients, and making sure my profession isn’t left behind as the industry advances.
Join me in petitioning for this change that supports the betterment of our community, the recognition of our profession's growth, and the empowerment of licensed nail technicians across Ohio by signing this petition today.
