The issue

My father sadly passed away on the 18th of July and was laid to rest on the 28th. Before his passing, we were led to believe he might return home, but his health rapidly declined. Now, amidst the grief, the Housing Commission in Bendigo has given us only 21 days to vacate his premises. In this short time, we haven't had the chance to pack or even begin to think about relocating over 60 years of cherished memories and possessions.

Currently, I am renting a  property through the Housing Commission. My deepest wish is to continue my father's legacy and take over his lease. It's not just about keeping a roof over our heads; it's about preserving the home that has held our family's history for decades. Moving his belongings within their limited timeframe is impossible, especially when we're still mourning and trying to navigate this new chapter without him. I think housing is so wrong for putting myself and my loved that greiving at this sad time :( please sign help change housing options upon circumstances please help thank you my regards

The Housing Commission's deadline is not just unrealistic; it's heartless. Families in Long Gully, Bendigo, and similar communities, who face similar situations, need empathy and understanding from authorities during such vulnerable times. By allowing lease takeovers for immediate family members, Housing Bendigo can demonstrate compassion and respect for families enduring loss.

We urge the Housing Commission Bendigo to reconsider their current policy and allow me, as an immediate family member, to take over my father's lease. This change would not only greatly benefit my family but also set a compassionate precedent for others in similar positions.

Please sign this petition to help us make this vital change possible, ensuring that families experiencing loss aren't further burdened by housing insecurity.
