Allow Lamerton Stores to Host a Post Office Franchise

The Issue

Lamerton Stores want to be there to help everyone in the surrounding villages and we believe that having a post office in store will help those who struggle to visit the bigger towns like  Launceston or Tavistock and be a lifeline for some. This initiative is not just about convenience; it's about strengthening the bonds that tie us together, fostering local economic growth, and preserving the essence of our community spirit.

Here's why we passionately support the introduction of a Post Office at Lamerton Stores:

Accessibility for All:

A Post Office at Lamerton Stores ensures that postal services are easily accessible to every resident in our local villages. This eliminates the need for journeys to distant locations by car or local transport. Especially in tricky weather conditions that we experience in Devon, avoiding the regular highway maintenance on local roads and bridges, mainly for our elderly and differently-abled community members who may face challenges in travelling.

Community Gathering Point:

Lamerton Stores is more than just a local petrol station; it's a little community hub. The addition of a Post Office creates a central gathering point where residents can not only take care of their postal needs but also interact with neighbours, share news, and strengthen our community. This allows them to feel part of a community and never feel alone.

Economic Boost for Local Businesses:

The introduction of a Post Office at Lamerton Stores has the potential to attract increased foot traffic. As people visit for postal services, they are likely to drive through local villages and explore nearby businesses, supporting the local economy and contributing to the growth of our community in Lamerton, Milton Abbot and surrounding areas.

Preserving Tradition and Heritage:

Our community has a rich history, and a Post Office is a symbol of that tradition. By bringing a Post Office to Lamerton Stores, we are not only modernising our services but also preserving a connection to our heritage. This addition will serve as a reminder of the importance of tradition in our ever-evolving online-only world.

In rural areas like ours, post offices serve as more than just mail hubs; they are vital lifelines for communities. According to the National Federation of SubPostmasters (NFSP), 17 million people in rural UK depend on their local post office for essential services (source: NFSP). By allowing Lamerton Stores to host a post office franchise, we can ensure these crucial services remain accessible to our community members.

We urge you all - residents of Lamerton, Milton Abbot and beyond - to stand together in support of this cause. Let's ensure we maintain access to essential postal services while supporting our beloved local store. Please sign this petition today!
