Allow gum in Fleming Island schools

Allow gum in Fleming Island schools
The Issue
Hello, my name is Sophie, and I am a student in Fleming Island, Florida. Currently, our schools enforce a strict no-gum policy, and I am starting this petition because I believe that this rule is outdated and unnecessary. I personally see that chewing gum in school does not affect teachers negatively, and for some, it can even be very beneficial.
For many students, chewing gum can be a helpful tool for improving concentration and reducing anxiety during classes. It can aid in maintaining focus during long lectures or while tackling tough assignments. Research shows that the act of chewing gum can stimulate brain activity, enhance memory and mental performance, and even relieve stress. A study published in the British Journal of Psychology noted improvements in cognitive functions among participants who chewed gum, suggesting that it could positively impact student performance and well-being.
Concerns about gum being a distraction or leading to a mess are understandable. However, with proper guidelines and responsible practices, these issues can be minimized. Establishing clear guidelines for responsible gum disposal, educating students on proper gum etiquette, and implementing consequences for improper disposal can help mitigate these concerns.
Many schools globally have successfully managed to implement moderate gum policies without any negative outcomes. Allowing gum in class, when done responsibly, can offer students a simple way to manage stress and stay focused.
Join me in urging the Fleming Island school administration to reconsider the no-gum rule and allow students to chew gum responsibly to enhance their learning experience. Please sign this petition to bring about a positive change in our schools.
P.S. One of the teachers at my school is allergic to many scents and things! So make sure to not go near her with minty gum. (Only for kids at my school)
