Allow Gaven Residents to Opt-Out of Gold Coast City Council Green Waste Bin Service

As a resident of Gaven, QLD, Australia, I am personally affected by the mandatory requirement to have a Gold Coast City Council Green Waste bin. Many of us in this community feel that we should have the choice whether or not to use this service.

The current policy forces all residents to pay for and use the green waste bin service regardless of their individual needs or circumstances. This one-size-fits-all approach does not consider those who may generate more green waste than these bins could ever hope to carry and prefer alternative methods of waste disposal such as composting.

According to data from Sustainable Resource Use Pty Ltd (SRU), approximately 50% of household waste in Australia is organic, which includes garden and food waste. However, this percentage varies greatly depending on individual households and their gardening habits.

We believe that giving residents the option would increase overall satisfaction with council services while potentially reducing unnecessary costs for both individuals and the council itself.

We urge you to reconsider this policy and allow Gaven residents a choice when it comes to using the Gold Coast City Council Green Waste bin service. Please sign our petition if you agree that we deserve this right.
