Subject: Request for the Return of Former President Rodrigo Duterte to the Philippines
We, the undersigned Filipino citizens and concerned individuals, respectfully submit this petition to the International Criminal Court (ICC) regarding the ongoing proceedings involving former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Recognizing the principle of national sovereignty and the ability of the Philippine justice system to address matters concerning its former leaders, we urge the ICC to allow former President Duterte to return to his homeland. The Philippines is a sovereign nation with functioning judicial institutions, and it is within the rights of its people to determine its own legal and political processes.
Furthermore, we believe that former President Duterte should be afforded due process within the Philippine legal system rather than being subjected to external prosecution that may not fully consider the complexities of our nation's governance and security challenges during his administration.
We, therefore, appeal to the ICC to:
Permit the voluntary return of former President Rodrigo Duterte to the Philippines while any legal proceedings continue.
Recognize the authority of the Philippine judiciary in handling matters concerning its former officials.
Acknowledge that the voice of the Filipino people should be respected in matters of national concern.
This petition reflects the sentiments of many Filipinos who wish to see the proper resolution of any legal matters within the country, in accordance with the laws and rights of the Philippines as a sovereign nation.
We sincerely hope that the ICC will respect the Philippine people’s call for the return of former President Duterte and allow our country’s judicial institutions to handle any proceedings concerning him.
