The Issue

As a passionate hobbyist pyrotechnician, I'm deeply frustrated by the stringent regulations that restrict the enjoyment of fireworks to only four holidays a year: Labor Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and New Year's. While these occasions allow me to share my artistry with family and friends, the joy is fleeting, leaving little opportunity to fully explore and display the beauty of fireworks throughout the year.

Fireworks are a unique form of artistic expression. They bring vibrancy, joy, and a sense of wonder to celebrations, enriching our cultural experiences. Restricting such displays to a mere handful of days is not only limiting for enthusiasts like myself but also curtails the broader public's access to this awe-inspiring art form.

In the United States, where freedom of expression is a cherished right, it's paradoxical that local ordinances can suppress the free expression of pyrotechnic art on most national holidays. Allowing fireworks on all national holidays would provide more opportunities for communities to come together and celebrate significant occasions with grandeur, while also supporting the small but passionate community of hobbyist pyrotechnicians.

Moreover, fireworks displays can significantly bolster local economies. According to the American Pyrotechnics Association, the fireworks industry contributes over $1 billion annually to the U.S. economy, supporting thousands of jobs. By expanding the number of permissible days for fireworks displays, we are not just enhancing celebrations but also stimulating economic growth.

Consider the potential positive impacts: more employment opportunities in the pyrotechnics industry, increased demand for supporting businesses such as food vendors and security services during shows, and the fostering of community pride and spirit during festivals and public gatherings.

While safety remains a critical concern, existing regulations can be adjusted to uphold high safety standards without resorting to outright prohibitions. Public education campaigns on the safe use of fireworks, along with designated public areas for displays, can ensure the events remain safe and enjoyable for all.

Let's advocate for a more joyful and expressive society by allowing fireworks displays on all national holidays. Join me in urging lawmakers to rethink current restrictions and embrace a more vibrant celebration culture in our communities. Please sign this petition to show your support for expanding the freedom to use fireworks on all national holidays.
