Allow Family-Owned Properties in Quinte West to House Livable Trailers
Allow Family-Owned Properties in Quinte West to House Livable Trailers
The Issue
My family and I, like many others in Quinte West, ON, Canada, found ourselves in a difficult situation. We had to leave our rental home due to unreasonable repair costs and decided to purchase a 38-foot trailer. This was not only an economical solution but also allowed us to stay close and assist our aging relatives on their property.
However, we were soon visited by a bylaw officer who informed us that residing in our trailer was against the law. Despite the fact that my in-laws have fully paid off their house and continue paying property taxes diligently.
This is not just about my family; it's about every family who may find themselves needing similar solutions. Current regulations are preventing families from making use of their own properties as they see fit - especially when no harm is being done to the community or environment.
In Canada, approximately 1 out of every 200 people are homeless (source: Canadian Observatory on Homelessness). By allowing livable trailers on private property, we could potentially provide affordable housing solutions for those struggling with homelessness or financial difficulties.
We urge the local government of Quinte West to reconsider these laws and allow families like ours to reside in trailers on their own properties if they choose so. It's time for change - let's make room for more flexible housing options! Please sign this petition if you agree.
