Allow External ADUs in Kaysville

The Issue

I am a resident of Kaysville, and have been for most of my life. My husband and I were living in a townhome in Roy for over $2000 a month when we learned we were pregnant and realized it was not possible for both of us to work with a baby - unless we paid for childcare. We decided our child came first, but could no longer afford our townhome - or any apartment. My family, who is the best, made room for us in their home in Kaysville, and there are now 12 of us under one roof.

It's been almost a year, and my husband and I aren't even close to having enough saved up to buy a home, and would someday like to have more children. With the increase in housing in Utah, we aren't the only ones. So many of our close, married friends are also living with their parents and see no likelihood of moving in the near future.

With this in mind, we talked with my family and agreed that building a small home in the backyard may be the best option for everyone. You can imagine our heartbreak when we learned that it is not allowed in Kaysville. You can build the biggest shed or granny flat you want in the back, you just can't have someone living in it. I reached out to the council, and only heard back from those who were willing to continue the conversation. This topic was talked about back in October (https://www.youtube.com/live/NKiiDVwcFLY?si=GIiTWQb1cAYdLXBD and their main concerns were people using them for renting, that they wouldn't be fun for neighbors to look at, or they are tired of hearing about this topic as it has already been denied.

Kaysville is growing, we can't deny that. And we're all trying to do what's best for our children. Please help by signing this petition and keeping the conversation of allowing external ADU's going and get them approved.
