Allow Dressage Diagrams to continue to sell British Dressage tests to Members

The Issue

Dressage Diagrams is a small business that runs an easy-to-use, well-designed website (https://www.dressagediagrams.org optimised for desktop and mobile devices, which offers both download and printing options for British Dressage, Pony Club, Eventing, FEI, Riding Clubs and other affiliation bodies’ dressage tests. There is no subscription fee and tests can be downloaded and/or printed for £2 each individually rather than in bundles. Once paid for, they are stored under a user account and accessible at any time and can be reprinted multiple times with no restrictions.

The diagrams are accompanied by optional text, are colour coded for different gaits and have a unique feature for judges who can format each test as viewed from A (competitor’s view) or C (judge’s view). Dressage Diagrams offer prompt tech support and have been used by British Dressage members for many years, helping riders to learn tests in the way that suits their learning style.

British Dressage has announced that from June 2024 they will withdraw their consent to allow Dressage Diagrams to provide this tried and trusted service to BD Members because they want to take the test distribution in-house.

We, the British Dressage members and Dressage Diagram users, appeal to British Dressage governing body to reconsider their decision and give BD members a choice between using TestPro App, BD online shop and Dressage Diagrams. If BD wants to develop a user-friendly functionality for test downloads and printing on its website, it is free to do so and should compete fairly with Dressage Diagrams, a small business it dwarfs in size. Curtailing Dressage Diagrams’ ability to operate on behalf of BD members amounts to monopoly and unfair advantage. It deprives BD members of using a familiar learning medium which caters for users who are visually and spatially disadvantaged. If BD is able to develop the same or better functionality, let Members decide which source of test materials they prefer through fair competition. Until BD can provide a viable alternative, please allow members a choice and do not take away the important aspect which allows riders to participate in BD events.
