Students at Douglas J Aveda cosmetology/ Esthi/ Massage schools work tirelessly to provide quality services, yet they are currently prohibited from accepting tips. This policy not only undermines the hard work of these students but also contradicts the common practice in the beauty industry where tipping is customary. According to a survey by The Street, 60% of Americans tip their hairstylists, demonstrating that this is a standard expectation for customers receiving these services (The Street, 2019). By preventing students from receiving tips, we are denying them an important part of their potential income and professional experience. We call on Douglas J Aveda schools to revise this policy and allow students to accept tips as a recognition for their hard work and dedication.
