Allow dayhome educators in Alberta to hire assistants
The Issue
Ever since I became a Dayhome Educator in Alberta, I've been passionate about providing comprehensive and nurturing care to children. However, the overwhelming responsibilities of managing every aspect of the dayhome by myself have been challenging. Despite my dedication, the absence of an assistant hinders my ability to give the best possible care and education to the children.
Currently, Alberta regulations for dayhome operations do not permit the employment of assistants, leaving educators like me to handle all duties alone. This limitation affects the quality of care, as it becomes difficult to balance child supervision, educational activities, meal preparation, and administrative work.
A single educator cannot adequately cater to the diverse needs of the children while ensuring their safety and well-being. Studies have shown that early childhood educators benefit greatly from additional support staff, leading to improved outcomes for children (source: Early Childhood Development Report, 2022).
By allowing the hiring of assistants, dayhome educators can provide more individualized attention, enhance learning experiences, and improve the overall environment for children. An assistant would also help in emergency situations, ensuring that no child is left unattended, thus increasing safety standards.
We urge the Alberta government and child care authorities to amend the regulations to permit the employment of assistants in dayhomes. This change will ensure that children receive the care and education they deserve, while also supporting educators in their critical role of shaping young minds.
Please join me in making this important change. Your signature can help transform dayhome education in Alberta, ensuring a better future for our children. Sign the petition today and support dayhome educators in providing the highest quality care possible.
