It is a well-known fact that people with color vision deficiency (CVD) are disallowed from qualifying as pilots in many countries globally. This is an outdated regulation that needs revision. We are excluding an entire demographic based on a condition that does not necessarily impede their ability to operate an aircraft proficiently. It is estimated that about 8% men and 0.5% of women globally are affected by CVD (source: National Eye Institute), making for a considerable pool of potential aviators who are, at present, unjustly disqualified. Moreover, modern aviation relies heavily on advanced instruments which are designed to accommodate pilots with CVD, rendering the prohibition null. By continuing to disqualify such individuals, we are promoting discrimination and hindering progress in aviation inclusivity. We implore regulatory bodies to reassess and reform their stance on CVD vis-a-vis qualification requirements for flight training and licensure. It is time to open the skies for everyone who aspires to fly. We urge you to sign our petition and support the aspiration of many potential pilots with CVD.
