The passage of this bill will strike from Nebraska statutes the words that currently make attending a home birth a felony for Certified Nurse-Midwives.

Nebraska and Alabama are the only two states which criminalize this service. The 48 other states, Puerto Rico, and Canada all take advantage of this option rather than prohibit it. 

In the past five years 413 babies have be born at home in Nebraska- none of these parents have had the option to hire a licensed care provider to attend them at home.

It is imperative that Nebraska's legislators understand that Nebraska's home births deserve access to, not protection from Certified Nurse-Midwives.
