Allow Children to Use Baby Pool and Jacuzzi During Woodbridge Swim Classes
Allow Children to Use Baby Pool and Jacuzzi During Woodbridge Swim Classes
The issue
My daughter was YELLED at today and would not stop crying for 2 hours.
As a parent in Woodbridge, Irvine, I have to manage the wellbeing of my two daughters who attend swim classes offered by WVA across different times. Sometimes these classes are spaced one to two hours apart, and the current rules mean one sibling has to sit idle and freeze while waiting for her sisters class. Siblings and other children are not able to even put their feet in the extremely shallow baby pool or jackuzi while swim classes are going on in a separate pool. Make it make sense???
This not only affects the enjoyment of my children’s swimming experience, but also becomes a disadvantage for many families with multiple children. The World Health Organization suggests that physical activity can be enhanced through play, games, and sport – denying children the use of the baby pool or jacuzzi in-between classes contradicts this approach to health and well-being.
At the heart of our community should be the consideration of children's interests and engagement. By permitting the use of the baby pool and jacuzzi during swim classes, we can ensure children stay warm, engage in healthy activity, and are not forced to sit and wait unnecessarily. Safety is not a concern as parents are with their children. Parents can even sign a waiver to be fully responsible for siblings at this time. There are too many idle lifeguards that are unnecessarily making our experience miserable. Even when they are going to leave at the end of their shifts they enforce a "safety break" just to inconvenience and freeze our children for an extra 10minutes before they leave!!! We are paying high HOA fees but unable to use our facilities freely, with rules that make no sense! My children are always misrable and bored, and are starting to hate swim classes! Today, my daughter was also YELLED at in a very rude way for using the swim lanes with her father, which a swim coach had told us is ok!!! She was so traumatised and said she never wants to go to swim lessons again. Is this what woodbridge village association wants for our children?
Let's strive for a better, more child-friendly environment at the Woodbridge swimming classes. Please help by signing this petition and making our voices heard. Together, we can ensure the rules are reconsidered and our children are given the freedom they deserve.
