When you first look at this photo, what comes to your mind? A family lives here? Yes. It’s a nice safe neighborhood? Very much so. 

As a mother of a young 4-year-old, I cherish the summer days spent outside in our yard. For the past three years, my child's laughter filled our neighborhood as he swung from a swing hung from our front yard tree. However, last year we received an HOA violation notice for this harmless source of joy. It was surprising to learn that while basketball hoops, porch swings, lawn chairs and other decor are permitted under the Founders Village HOA's Residential Improvement Guidelines and Residential Site Restrictions (1/1/1999), a child's swing is not.

This seems unfair. Our community should be one that encourages children to play outdoors and fosters family-centered values.

Therefore, I propose an exception to section 2.54 of the current guidelines to allow for a single child's swing to be hung from a homeowner's front yard tree during the same months basketball hoops are permitted - April 1 through October 30.
