Allow Animals Recuperation from Strep Zoo at Baldwin Park, Not Euthanasia

The Issue

I am and always have been a lover of animals. Seeing an animal in distress pulls at my heartstrings, and knowing that these creatures may not be given a fighting chance to recover is devastating for me. Many of us in Baldwin Park, CA share this sentiment, hence this petition.

It has come to attention that the shelter is issuing a 24 hrs euthanasia notice for dogs diagnosed with Strep Zoo and a 72 hrs notice for dogs “possibly” exposed to strep zoo, a highly infectious bacterial disease. However, it is critical to understand that with proper care and medication, afflicted animals might have the potential to recover.

According to the Journal of American Veterinary Medical Association, treatment of Strep Zoo in animals has seen successful results with the utilization of antibiotics. Euthanasia should not be our go-to option when there are other alternatives available. It decreases biodiversity, disrupts ecosystems, and most importantly, robs a sentient being of their life.

We respectfully call upon the relevant authorities in Baldwin Park to reconsider their policies regarding the handling of Strep Zoo. Instead of choosing euthanasia as the immediate solution, we would like to propose animals be given a fair chance to recuperate from the disease under the watch of veterinarians.

By signing this petition, you are amplifying this appeal for change, voicing your support for animal welfare, and promoting a more compassionate approach to dealing with illness in the animal kingdom. Please sign this petition today, and let us give these animals the fighting chance they deserve.
