Allocate Old Blountstown High for 4-H Activities

Allocate Old Blountstown High for 4-H Activities
The Issue
Growing up in the 4-H program here in Blountstown, FL, I have always cherished the sense of community and growth it offers our young participants. Unfortunately, since I started, we've had to share our office with the county commissioners, limiting our space and capacity to engage fully in our activities. Having our dedicated space would not only allow us to thrive but also allow for much-needed expansion.
The old Blountstown High School, with its unused facilities, stands as the perfect opportunity for our 4-H team to expand its horizons. We are urging the Calhoun County Commissioners to consider allocating these idle spaces—specifically, the gym and any other available areas—as a dedicated 4-H office and activity center. Such a move would not only rejuvenate the old school building but also provide a nurturing environment for our youth.
The importance of 4-H in shaping responsible, active, and informed future leaders cannot be overstated. 4-H fosters skill development in areas such as leadership, science, agriculture, and healthy living. By securing our own facility, we can implement more programs and welcome more participants, helping to strengthen the fabric of our community.
In many communities, re-purposing outdated facilities for youth initiatives has proven to yield positive social and educational benefits. According to a study by the National 4-H Council, young people in 4-H report better grades, higher levels of civic engagement, and healthier lifestyles compared to their peers.
Now is the time to give the youth of Clarksville and Blountstown the tools they need to succeed by granting them a space dedicated to their development. Please support our petition to allocate the unused spaces at Blountstown High School to 4-H, ensuring that we continue to cultivate future leaders for generations to come.
