NOV 19, 2017 — Dear Friends
Mayor Ed Malloy has written the following regarding opt out from the wireless smart meters and requested to get the word out.
1. “The letters that were certified and sent to Alliant two weeks ago - those will not be acted upon, so if someone is thinking they have made their formal request for opt out status, they have not. They need to call the customer service line and give their name and account number. They will then receive a mailing and later another mailing before installation to verify the opt out.
2. The IUB still needs to approve the Alliant opt out. Alliant staff feel positive, but after hearing that the Wisconsin commission turned it down, I want to be prepared to give public input when it comes before them.
3. I am cautiously optimistic about the approval. I believe they will base their decision on the fairness of the economics to other rate payers. In other words they want people opting out to pay for any extra costs incurred so they are not borne by other customers. “
End of statement
So everyone who desires to opt out should call Alliant at 1800 2554268 with your account number.
We need to show support for the opt out program with numbers of people wanting to opt out. Without support of numbers
The State Utility Board could turn us down on a financial basis .
A group in town has sent out a complex letter telling you how to opt out. It is not necessary to go through all that . Just a call and opt out. An engineer will be sent to your home to determine the age of your current meter. Opt out choice you want is for a non transmitting meter. Preferably to keep the meter you now have. It's that simple.
Alliant is saying there's an up front cost of $120.00 per month. It can be spread over a year . And a cost per month of $15.00 . It costs more than that to have a smart meter as they draw electricity , and bills actually rise with smart meters . .
Please call very soon so we can have enough numbers. People with Solar installations will not be able to opt out unless they give up their Alliant monthly solar credit .
But you can check on that individually.
