“The Solution is Less Pollution”
Why this petition matters
We see plastic everywhere, from supermarkets to households. We can't deny the fact that plastic is already a part of our lives since it is very convenient, cheap, and it serves its purpose. However, this material that we use every day is one of the most harmful substances that affect the whole world, from human life to wildlife to aquatic life, which contributes massively to environmental pollution. Despite its affordable price, it adds up to the qualities of why plastic pollution is continuously growing and affecting our lives. One of the disadvantages of being cheap is it can get discarded that adds to the pollution problem we've been facing for a long time now.
Plastic is a light-weight, inexpensive, and long-lasting material that is composed of major toxic pollutants that can cause significant harm to the environment. Plastic is a non-biodegradable material, which contains toxins and fumes that can be harmful when burnt. The only means for it to be gone is to dump it, which means that it'll remain on the surface of the Earth. Disposed plastic is used as food materials by animals, such as cows, which can cause intoxication or choking. According to ocean conservancy, our country generates about 2.7 million metric tons of plastic waste and half a million metric tons of plastic waste leakage each year. Also, about 90% of the articles found on the sea beaches contained plastic. These plastics originated from the land, used to wrap around and for wrapping/packing materials. Because plastic does not decompose and requires high energy ultraviolet light to break down, the amount of plastic waste in our oceans is steadily increasing. It can affect marine wildlife as it can be mistaken as food by the aquatic animals. It can also affect us as it can contaminate the water that can lead to a shortage of clean water, thus, not having enough supply of water at all.
