As the draft domestic abuse bill is there to be seen, it is clear to all that it is designed to protect women and girl. And rightfully so, but should also represent men, boys and the lgbt community as all can be victims. I feel it wrong that they use this gendered approach when nearly 800,000 men (by government estimates) suffer abuse each year. How can that number be called a minority?

When divising the bill, professionals from all support services should have been consulted not just the likes of Women's Aid and Refuge who claim to support men yet outsource the support. People like Mankind Initiative, Dr Liz Bates, Robert Wells, the Paul Lavelle Foundation and Break the Silence UK should have been giving their advice and guidance around male victims but were ignored.

Consideration of the fact "gendering" the domestic abuse bill plays into the hands of what a number of male victims face, and that's the message of not being believed or not important from their perpetrators. Abuse is abuse, not a gender issue and by signing this petition you are supporting us in imploring the government to address this before they make the biggest mistake in legal history by alienating over 1 million victims.

We want support of professionals, victims/survivors and the families and friends of those effected to sign and stand with us.

Thank you.
