Denounce the brutal destruction of Dolphins in Taiji

Denounce the brutal destruction of Dolphins in Taiji

The Issue

On January 17, 250 bottlenose dolphins were driven in to the cove in Taiji, Japan, where they were kept for 5 days without food, during a gruelling captive selection process that separated mothers from their babies and other family members. 52 dolphins were taken for captivity (3 have since died in their pens), including a rare albino baby named Angel who was taken from her mother, and now sits at the Taiji museum barely moving or coming up for air. 41 were brutally slaughtered in front of the rest of their family. The remaining 130-140 dolphins after being starved for 5 days and watching their family disappear or killed were driven back out to sea. Many were juveniles, who are not expected to survive, as they still rely on their mothers and family for their survival.

The last week its self has seen over 100 dolphins killed and 6 taken into captivity.

This event has brought worldwide attention being covered by CNN, HLN and other news networks around the globe, and has been denounced by the US Ambassador Caroline Kennedy and the US Government, The UK, Germany, Italy and Romania. Strangely though, my country Canada, has been embarrassingly silent on this issue, both by the media and government.

I am asking you, our Canadian representatives to speak out against this and help the thousands of people that are working hard to put an end to this senseless slaughter and capturing of wild marine life for our entertainment. These animals do not belong to Japan, nor do they belong to any of us. They deserve to life their life in peace without harm.

Thank you for your support,
