Meat suppliers & eateries in India must mention the kind of meat they offer: Jhatka/Halal

The Issue

Most non-vegetarians are not aware whether they're being served Jhatka (animal beheaded in a jhatka or flash) or Halal (animal slaughtered methodically so as to cause slow death, as prescribed in the Holy Quran) meat. Now this is not a problem for non-Sikhs and non-Muslims, as there is no commandment on this, except for in these two religions. While in Sikhism, eating halal makes you a kurehati (sinner), in Muslims, eating Jhatka is totally unacceptable.

There are many Muslim and Sikh friends I know who would eat non-veg freely in the West as the halals are labelled as that, while rest are machine cut (mimicks the jhatka or flash cut procedure). But here, in India, with so much Sikh and Muslim population, eateries or raw meat suppliers have no mandate by law to mention the kind of meat they're serving: jhatka/machine cut or halal. This is unfair towards a small, but staunch sector of population who can only buy/ eat non-veg at tested, verified eateries/ meat shops.

Eating non-veg or not is debatable and an individual's own choice,  and 'once you choose to eat, it doesn't matter what kind it is' is another argument that is put across. This,  as mentioned earlier, is an individual's choice. And if it matters to the individual that the meat he eats is jhatka or halal, it must matter to the seller too.

That's the point I make in this petition. Join me, if you think in India, as is manadated in the West, we have the right to know what we are eating.

Thanks, friends. Our vegan friends can also sign this to show support for the right to information about what exactly is being served to us.
