Aloha Maui Ocean Lovers.

Surfrider Foundation Maui Chapter is asking for your support to protect our precious Lahaina surf spots.

The word is out that the Army Corps of Engineers- after a few years of due diligence, public meetings, and consultation- is moving ahead with an expansion of the Lahaina Harbor. This is the busiest small boat harbor in the state, and when the cruise ships are in town, the commercial and private boat users will tell you that it's jam-packed. It's a busy zone though, and surfers at Harbor cherish the spectacular A-Frame wave that churns barrels, walls, and lines toward the boat channel. Lahaina Breakwall on the other side of the channel entrance is an absolute gem, and easily the most surfed wave in West Side. It's vital that before July 4, surfers who love these waves raise their voices, and ensure that the Army Corps of Engineers prioritizes the recreational, cultural, and community value of Lahaina Harbor and Breakwall as it implements plans for Harbor expansion. The Maui Ocean-loving community has rallied before to protect Honolua, Ma'alaea, and Peahi, and now it's time to protect Lahaina. We are asking for an open forum on this issue, so the community can connect directly with the project managers, and ensure that all feedback is included in the final project implementation.  Sign the petition before July 4 to show how important this is to you!
