85% seats in all medical colleges in Maharashtra to domicile students.
85% seats in all medical colleges in Maharashtra to domicile students.
The Issue
The Maharashtra unaided private professional educational institutions (regulation of admissions and fees) Act 2015,(Mah.xxvlllof 2015) clearly states that admissions to medical colleges are regulated by the state government. All these years they followed the rules. The state got majority students from the state itself.
This year the NEET exam was introduced suddenly just because some NGO wanted it immediately. Nobody gave a thought to the students. Now we have the results in front of us. The students in Maharashtra have scored less than the students from other states because they had to prepare a new syllabus of 2 yrs in just 70 days. The judge, the ministers, the bureaucracy thought that there was no discrepancy and all had "equal" opportunity.
Now once the admission process began, ,suddenly the private medical colleges and Deemed universities wanted freedom to admit students. The rampant corruption and exorbitant fees are for everyone to see. Majority of the seats in Maharashtra have been usurped by non maharashtrians.
This is not fair. Where should the students in the state go. Does the Govt not want our students to get seats in the state where they reside?
The future of the students from Maharashtra, aspiring to be doctors, is at stake. It is going to impact all future generations. Why should the students domiciled in a state not get it's benefit? All other states have it.
