In the 1900s in America it was taboo for men’s nipples to be exposed. They protested and by 1936 men were free to roam without their shirts. Women on the other hand are continually subjected to misogyny among society and men as well as laws within the US, even after the passage of the ERA over 98 years ago. Why are women still treated sexually when referring to their breasts? An organ used to fulfill life and nourishment of children far more then sexual desire. Not only that, women are still forced to hide in order to feed their children in this form. The ERA expressly forbids discrimination on the basis of sex and since men are allowed to show their breasts women must also be allowed or it is inherently discriminatory and any sexual desire reference is null. The federal government, businesses and local governments have been practicing this discrimination for decades and no one has fought it. It’s far past time we do.
