While most Chicagoans are acclimated to the political, backdoor, negotiations that go about in our city, we are offended by the sheer amount of hubris that Mayor Emmanuel and his appointed CPS cronies have displayed in regards to the proposed list of Chicago public school closings. The design and execution of these closings are reckless, haphazard and in complete disregard for the safety, education, and emotional well-being of our children. We therefore not only voice our total support for Senate Bill 1571, but also promise that we will keep an eye on which alderman, state representatives and senators are proponents of the bill, and which are not.

For those political representatives who do not support SB 1571, we vow to show up at the voting booth and vote against your re-election. As elected officials, you have a duty to carry out our voices. You are in a position of power, power we granted you. We call on you now to wield that power by representing your constituents. You must rise to the defense of our children and place a halt on this egregious proposal. You must demand that CPS look at alternative solutions, including solutions proposed by the public, and that any proposed actions take place over an extended period of time, to allow for proper transition.

We refuse to have our children caught in a political crossfire. Money is not to be prized over the care and safety of our children. If you ever wondered what it would take to get the citizens of the Chicagoland area to rise up in dissent, you have just found your answer.

By signing this, I agree that I am in full support of Senate Bill 1571, which among other things, would impose a 2-year minimum moratorium on any and all proposed Chicago school closings. I also vow to vote against any alderman, state representative and/or Senator who is not a proponent of SB 1571, in future elections.
