We believe the HHS Auditorium should be named the Tom Orr Auditorium. Mr. Orr was not a superintendent, a principal, or a coach, but as residents of Hendersonville and graduates of HHS, our memories of his passion for the arts is indelible. For 32 years he worked to show us what high school theatre can be. And it was a lot of work! He was tireless in his efforts to introduce all of his students to drama and comedy. He was a figure known by the entire Hendersonville community, all the way to his passing. How many of us looked forward to reading his weekly column in the newspaper detailing the history of this town? We alumni and community members petition the school board to name the HHS auditorium after Tom Orr. There is no one else who has done so much for the arts at HHS and in Hendersonville.
