Pledge to stop catering the American Legend Auction
The American Legend Auction is the largest trading auction of animal pelts in North America. During the auction, which happens annually in March and May in Washington, the furs of millions of animals who were raised and brutally killed on fur farms or cruelly trapped in the wild are be bought and sold. Alki Bakery should be ashamed of catering this auction and pledge to end their relationship with American Legend and the horrific fur industry.
We are asking Alki Bakery to pledge, in writing, to no longer cater the American Legend Auction and to end all business relations with American Legend and the fur industry. Even after you received a letter informing you of the nature of this auction, you chose to cater the auction for yet another time. Please let this be the end of your business with the cruel fur industry.
As you were made aware in the letter, the American Legend Auction is the largest trading auction of animal pelts in North America. During the auction, the furs of millions of animals who were raised and killed on fur farms or trapped in the wild will be bought and sold by people from over 20 countries, and millions of dollars will be exchanged between fur farmers, designers, and retailers. This is where the pieces of the fur industry come together and people make money off of the bodies of tortured animals.
You were also told about how the fur industry is a nightmare for animals. Animals in fur farms are exposed to the cold with little or no shelter, and often go crazy from living in barren cages. They are killed by the cheapest methods that avoid spilling their blood on their fur; these include suffocation, anal electrocution, and having their necks snapped. Many animals are skinned alive. Animals trapped in the wild may have their legs caught when they step into steel-jawed traps or be caught in body grip traps. If an animal is still alive when the trapper returns, the trapper will snap his or her neck or will stand on the animal’s chest to crush his or her lungs. The list of animals who are victims of the fur industry includes mink, fox, wolves, cougars, rabbits, dogs, beavers, lynx, chinchillas, and raccoons. It can take the skins of over 40 animals to make one fur coat.
Even with knowing all of this information, you still chose to cater the American Legend Auction, making you a part of the inherent cruelty of this auction. This is shameful, and it is time for you to reconsider your involvement with the fur industry and to make the compassionate decision to cut all ties with it.
Please pledge, in writing, to no longer cater the American Legend Auction and to end all business relations with American Legend and the fur industry, and please notify Action for Animals of your decision.
