Why it matters:

Capp street, my home, is a vibrant tapestry of cultures and people. At its heart lies Alioto Park. It was built during the inaugural year under then-Mayor Joe Alioto.

Over time, our beloved park has lost all of its luster and vitality. The community garden is vandalized daily. This park is now abandoned to drunkards, drug addicts and gangs. Remains of the children's playground are now disgusting and unsafe with homelessness. Public urination has become a real problem. 

Alioto Park was once bustling with activities that brought people together as one big family. It needs a revival to become the catalyst for building new relationships between neighbors and fostering existing ones.

Our idea is enhancing the signage with art and lights, a giant mural, a free children library and revitalize the abandoned children playground. It would build a knit-tight community that will make the place safer and allow a gradual return of the families.

According to Trust For Public Land's 2020 City Parks Survey Report (source), parks play a crucial role in improving mental health and fostering community bonds - something we all can benefit from, especially during these challenging times.

By upgrading Alioto Park we are not just enhancing a physical space; we are revitalizing an integral part of our community fabric that promotes inclusivity and unity among neighbors.

Let's honor Mayor Joe Alioto's legacy by ensuring his namesake park continues serving its purpose as a hub for community engagement. Let us work together towards making our neighborhood even more welcoming than it already is!
