Release an all analog Remaster of Facelift by Alice in Chains on vinyl

The Issue

Later this year will be the 30th anniversary of the release of Facelift. Facelift launched the career of the iconic and beloved band Alice in Chains. It has been certified double platinum by the RIAA.

In recent years there has been a trend of releasing remasters of albums on vinyl records, appropriately called the 'vinyl revival'. I personally think that it is a massive shame that this masterpiece has not been part of that trend.

This album and the music of Alice in Chains has had a profound impact on my life personally. As someone who has struggled with depression, anger, anxiety, and ADHD, Alice in Chains lyrics have helped me through some very tough times, even if it was just the comfort of knowing that someone else out there felt the same way I do/did, particularly when I was in college.

Vinyl records for me are also a big deal. As someone who has suffered with the aforementioned mental issues, I do not deal with stress very well, and have to have something to anchor myself for a while in order to deal with stress. The portability of digital music just makes it too easy to do other things while listening to music.

So when I recently discovered vinyl as a good listening experience as opposed to just collecting, I was dismayed to find out that not only had Facelift not been part of the vinyl revival, that it had never seen a U.S. release on vinyl or widespread vinyl release. The few versions that were released in 1990 are rare and some pressings are of questionable QC. This rarity has led to most copies selling for very expensive amounts and many fans without the ability to own this masterpiece on vinyl.

Therefore not only am I asking for a remaster and reissue, but I am specifically asking for the Band, management, and/or label to partner with someone like Analog Productions or Mobile Fidelity to do an all analog reissue with a well known mastering engineer such as Bernie Grundman, Kevin Gray, Steve Hoffman, or Shawn R. Britton, who will give the album the attention and respect it deserves.

There are a lot of more important things going on in the world right now, and this may sound frivolous, but I think it's worthy because with all the things keeping us in doors and full of stress in 2020, we need music, and in the words of Neil Young: "because sound matters".
