Bertha Botros started this petition to Alhambra School District and

For years we have all been exposed to the dress code. We are all familiar with the double standard saying that what we wear is considered “distracting”. The question is to who?

In the official Alhambra High School dress code policy it states:

5.       NO extremely short or slitted skirts, dresses, or shorts which may be considered distracting. Shorts should be mid-thigh (end of shorts and finger tips should be aligned)

Girls are affected by this policy everyday making sure not to show their shoulders.  Getting stopped at school and getting sent to the office to change because we are distracting others. When asking who are we distracting never was there an answer.

If it is what every girl thinks the reason is. This shouldn’t be implemented at all. Girls at school shouldn’t feel like they need to cover up their SHOULDERS because a male peer or male teacher might be “distracted”. What kind of school are you defending this kind of behavior.

It is always the same issue of the shoulders.

This petition isn’t to change the whole policy of the dress code. We understand that people get dress coded for other things such as wearing opened toe shoes or wearing your hood. But the issue we are bringing to your attention is that we girls are tired of being dress coded for showing shoulders.

We have never gotten a clear answer. Who are we distracting?
