Algie D Saunders Time To Come Home

Algie D Saunders Time To Come Home
The Issue
My husband has shown and proved he is a completely different person and has turned his life around 150%. Despite this enormous change, Virginia does not give inmates like him a fair chance to demonstrate that they have changed. It is heartbreaking every day knowing that someone who has worked so hard to transform himself is still denied the opportunity to come home to his loving family.
There are many inmates in Virginia who have genuine support systems and families eagerly awaiting their return. These individuals are not merely statistics; they are fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters who have people that love them and need them at home. Currently, the parole and early release policies in Virginia do not reflect this reality and fail to provide a pathway for reformed individuals to return to society.
Statistics show that family bonding and community support significantly decrease recidivism rates and increase the likelihood of successful reintegration into society. Studies conducted by the Bureau of Justice Statistics reveal that people with strong family ties are less likely to re-offend. By revising these policies, Virginia can reduce incarceration costs and promote safer communities.
We propose that Virginia implements a more individualized review process for inmates who have demonstrated personal growth and rehabilitation. Establishing a transparent and fair mechanism for evaluating inmates on a case-by-case basis, considering their behavior, rehabilitation efforts, and family ties, can lead to more just outcomes. This approach not only supports the reformation of individuals but also strengthens families and communities throughout the state.
We ask Governor Glenn Youngkin and the Virginia Department of Corrections to take immediate action to reform the parole system. Let us give those who have changed a chance to prove they deserve a new start. Join us in advocating for this crucial change.
Please sign this petition to endorse a fair chance for reformed inmates and the reunification of families in Virginia—a step towards a more just and compassionate judicial system. Together, we can bring about meaningful change that serves us all.
