Alfreda's family was powerless to stop her torture. Help them get justice.

The issue

When Alfreda’s family came to see her it was already too late. Her body was riddled with signs of torture and she was in prison, still at the mercy of the Philippines police.

Alfreda Disbarro was in prison for 2 days before her family found her. When they arrived they asked to see the prison log book. Her family say Alfreda’s name was not in the book which meant she had been unlawfully detained and she had been hidden by the police.

When they saw Alfreda she was in a dark room under watchful police supervision. Alfreda was scared to speak because of the police watching her but she signalled to her family that she was having trouble breathing.

Alfreda’s arms were bound but despite this her family could see signs of abuse all over her body. She had visible dark bruises on the nape of her neck, her arms and legs. She said her head was hurting like it was swelling or expanding.

Alfreda’s family asked for Alfreda to see a doctor. The station Police Chief denied their request.

Having been through that experience Alfreda’s family is scared to ask police for help. They’ve been threatened and had to move house for fear of their safety.

But, despite that, they’re standing strong to fight for justice for Alfreda.

Now more than ever, we need to unite with families like Alfreda’s and demand torture stops once and for all.

Sign this petition today and demand justice for Alfreda from the Philippines National Police.
