Zero Tolerance Bullying Policy in all schools in the UK & a Change of Complaints Procedures Urgently Required!!
The Issue
Bullying is wrong, we need to put an end to it. I thought all schools had zero tolerance to bullying but how wrong I was. Our 10 year old child has suffered horrific bullying involving physical assault, broken nose, years of psychological abuse resulting in serious consequences and much worse that I am not prepared to share online. The school refused to tell the bullies parents. Their anti bullying policies do not inform parents of bullies in first instance however in my experience it is 5th or 6th instance before they tell the parents. This needs to be changed to zero tolerance & tell bullies parents in first instances. Suspending or expelling bullies when necessary if bullying continues. Making an official complaint to the Education Officers (as the school had not followed their own policy to inform parent of bullies after a 2nd incident), they found school did everything right & their words were "these 5 bullies have the right to rehabilitation & parents will not be told" even though it was more than one occasion & very serious forms of bullying (not just a push in the playground). However at a later date the Area Edication Officer in charge of the complaint, informed us they do not have any authority to make any changes within school or regarding bullying policies. Therefore they should not be handling complaints if they can not do anything. We have been told to remove our child (the victim of bullying) if unhappy, rather than deal with bullies & fix policies that are leaving children vulnerable. Complaining higher to Head of Education for Fife West she did not even speak with us & again found school handling of bullying & educations officers handling complaints were all fine & nothing will be changed. We were told our conduct was wrong. So demanding action, asking question must be inappropriate to them as never once were we agressive, we only became firm & refused to stop asking questions when we received politician type answers, skirting round the issues & not actually answering the reasonable questions we put to them. In MY opinion protecting bullies, staff & policies are more important than making the victim feel supported. Not once has anyone apologied for the suffering our child has endured, made us as parents feel reassured that they are taking our complaint seriously, & re-assure us that our child is safe in school. Instead the next incident resulted our child visiting A&E so clearly their policies & procedures do not work! Let's change this for every single school in the UK! I know we are not the only ones experiencing the same issues in our local school. We need to act together to make this change. Please sign this petition & share with friends & family. This could be your child! If we don't speak up the civil servants here to serve the community will continue to dictate to us instead of protecting our children! Thank you.
