Petition updateTell Aldi to Go 100% Gestation Crate FreeCrated Pigs: When Will Aldi Live Up to Its Own Animal Welfare Policy?

Dear Supporter,

Aldi's animal welfare policy states that good animal welfare requires that animals be “able to express innate behavior.” When it comes to innate behavior, fish have to swim, birds have to fly, and pigs have to walk and turn around. So why does Aldi still allow its suppliers to confine mother pigs in gestation crates, which are so cramped that they do not even allow pregnant pigs to turn around?

More than 350,000 consumers have signed our petition asking Aldi to eliminate gestation crates, but apparently more action is needed to persuade Aldi to publicly commit to eliminating crates from its supply chain by a certain date. You can help!

You can:

  • Call Aldi's Customer Service Line at (800) 325-7894 (option #4), Mon–Fri 9am–5pm EST or email us.customerservice@aldi.us
  • Identify yourself and either follow this script or have a polite but clear conversation of your own: Even though Aldi's animal welfare policy requires that animals be "able to express innate behavior," Aldi allows its suppliers to confine pregnant pigs in gestation crates so small that they cannot even turn around. Aldi's vague policy statement—that you expect suppliers to eliminate gestation crates someday—isn't enough. I want to shop at a store that takes a meaningful stand against this kind of cruelty. I'm calling to ask that Aldi require your suppliers to end the use of gestation crates by a specific deadline."
  • Even though you may be told that the appropriate department will be informed, please get a case number and ask if there is a time that you can follow up with them!

Thank you for taking a few minutes to speak up for the mother pigs who are needlessly suffering in gestation crates. Together, we can put an end to this practice, and help Aldi live up to its own animal welfare policy.

For the animals,

Crate Free USA
