Black Lives Matter Roadway Mural in Downtown Kenosha

Black Lives Matter Roadway Mural in Downtown Kenosha
The Issue
On August 23rd, Jacob Blake was shot multiple times in the back by a Kenosha Police Department Officer. He was left in critical condition and suffers injuries that he will have to endure for the rest of his life. This past week, Kenosha, Wisconsin, who many call their hometown, has suffered great loss. Not only did we almost lose Jacob Blake, we lost the lives of 2 other Wisconsin residents due to a shooting, families homes, beautiful essential businesses, and years of hard work. We are all grieving.
We call on Mayor John Antaramian, alderman of district 2 Bill Siel, and Governor Tony Evers to dedicate a roadway mural to Black Lives Matter in Kenosha to signify this city’s commitment to change. Throughout the past few days, residents of Kenosha have come together to rebuild and clean our unique and compelling city. The people here want to create change. We are ambitious. By passing this petition, we can show what we are capable of when everyone comes together as a whole. The Black Lives Matter movement has become one of the most important advances concerning injustice and inequality people have faced for centuries. The people of Kenosha are proposing to have Black Lives Matter painted on 7th avenue in downtown Kenosha to show our love, support, and determination to create peace and equality throughout our city and world. We want primarily black and brown artists to be a part of this mural to incorporate the reason behind this. We have already seen this be done in Washington, D.C, resulting in touching the lives of many and positively impacting the country greatly. This small yet empowering gesture will change the lives of this generation and inspire the next. We are the change.
