Support smart gun laws for Albuquerque

Support smart gun laws for Albuquerque
The Issue
Albuquerque City Councilors have proposed common-sense new gun laws for Albuquerque and they need our support. The City Council will hold hearings on these bills before the end of 2019 - show your support today.
Today, it is perfectly legal for someone to enter city hall or a council meeting carrying an assault rifle and extra ammunition. Police can't stop them or ask questions until they start shooting. That's absurd and we shouldn't have to wait for the worst to happen before we take action.
O-19-83 (sponsored by Councilors Davis, Gibson, Benton) bans firearms in city meetings, including city council meetings, and city facilities. It creates a safe work environment for city workers, and ensures firearms aren't on hand during discussions in public forums and contentious hearings.
O-19-82 (sponsored by Councilor Davis) requires gun owners to secure their guns when they leave them unattended. This simple measure ensures they don't fall into the hands of children at home, and don't serve as an incentive for criminals.
