To no longer allow Dr. Jun Yang to practice Veterinary Medicine in Alberta.

The Issue

UPDATE AUGUST 1, 2017

I closed the pettion on July 31, 2017 and set the signatures to Dr. Boute at the ABVMA.  He responded August 1, 2017, you can find his response under updates/comments.

Dr. Jun Yang was accused of choking, punching and kicking two dogs at his clinic in northeast Edmonton. He was also found GUILTY Monday of not providing the dogs with adequate food, water, shelter and space.

Yang was found GUILTY under the Criminal Code of wilfully causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to two dogs, which carries a maximum jail sentence of 18 months.

The other three charges were under the Animal Protection Act and carry a maximum fine of $20,000.

The ABVMA acknowledges and recognizes the seriousness of the June 19, 2017, court decision that convicted Dr. Jun Yang under the Criminal Code and the Animal Protection Act.

A suspension of Dr. Yang's registration to practice veterinary medicine has been issued by the Registrar in accordance with section 33 of the VPA, pending a hearing into the matter.

We want to ensure that he is PERMANENTLY banned from practicing veterinary medicine.

The Veterinarian Oath taken by Canadian veterinarians, established by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association reads as follows:

"As a member of the veterinary medical profession, I solemnly swear that I will use my scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society.

I will strive to promote animal health and welfare, relieve animal suffering, protect the health of the public and environment, and advance comparative medical knowledge.

I will practise my profession conscientiously, with dignity, and in keeping with the principles of veterinary medical ethics.

I will strive continuously to improve my professional knowledge and competence and to maintain the highest professional and ethical standards for myself and the profession."
