Harley Fielding started this petition to Alberta Government

Over 10 percent of plastic goes into the ocean each year. In Alberta alone 2.8 million tons of plastic ends up in the ocean, up to 80 percent of that is water bottles. These bottles end up in the ocean and attract sea creature, who then eat them and die. It's not just sea creatures, but plants, land animals, and birds that are impacted, too. Birds swoop down into the ocean and end up eating plastic. Land animals eat and get caught in the ones we just throw onto the ground. As animals die, the plants won't get the nutrients they need, and if there are no animals and plants, we will die from starvation.

If we get the Albertan government to ban plastic bottles, it will help our animals, plants and people. By successfully banning these bottles in Alberta, we might inspire other people in different places to do the same. There are many alternatives to single use plastic water bottles, such as aluminum.   We are grade six students, and we are worried about our future.

Thank you, and we hope to get your support.
