Ban Chuck Wagon Races at the Calgary Stampede!
The Issue
CHUCK WAGON RACES KILL HORSES!
Chuck wagon races at the Stampede have once again carelessly caused the death of several horses this year. This sport is reckless and irresponsible and should be banned. Horse and wagon combinations were designed for leisurely transportation and not for being driven at high speeds around tight corners, and alongside other wagons strapped to horse teams running at the will of their driver and his whip (& a cash prize). These animals are not being treated fairly and this racing is much more dangerous than jockey racing or even sulky racing! Wagons aren't meant to turn corners on two wheels nor are they built to bounce off each other like they do. If people were killed in these races instead of horses, I'm sure officials would be expected to step in and lay down new laws then. It's surprising that people haven't already been a fatality, but I'm sure that's just a matter of time too.
Have a heart and support these poor animals who aren't given a choice to take part in this madness, and sign this petition. It's all fun and games, until another horse gets killed!
