Killing the black bear family in Anchorage is NOT the answer. Relocate!
The Issue
Killing this black bear family will not resolve the ongoing problem in Anchorage. More black bears will replace those killed because the garbage that brought the bears to that neighbored will still be “the problem” that attracts future bears.
Fish and Game can relocate the bears far enough away to give them a fighting chance to survive. Then the problem can be addressed by the community working together. First and foremost by securing garbage in an appropriate manner, such as acquiring bear proof garbage trash bins and dumpsters.
This problem exists all over Alaska, and the resolution isn't killing the animals that wander into our living space and get into our garbage - but to secure our garbage in a responsible manner so they don't have a reason to come into our yards.
Let's set an appropriate precedence for dealing with our wildlife in the future. Let's start here...
