Installing a Gondola System in Gainesville, Florida

Installing a Gondola System in Gainesville, Florida
The Issue
With the constant growth of metropolitan Gainesville, traffic management is becoming increasingly difficult. With more development occurring in the suburbs of Gainesville and surrounding towns, the arterial road infrastructure will be inadequate to support the demands of daily commuting, regional commerce and special events including concerts, football games, etc.
With the availability of parking becoming limited at popular destinations such as the University of Florida, Midtown and Downtown Gainesville, having access to the great amenities that Gainesville and surrounding Alachua County townships is frustrating to both local residents and visitors from around the world.
While the City of Gainesville has an exemplary bus transportation system, increasing the number of busses and routes is only a temporary solution. In the long term this will lead to more congestion on the roads due to the increase in busses stopping to pickup riders.
Alachua County and the City of Gainesville have reached the point in urban development were an affordable, sustainable, and efficient transportation system is required. With inadequate city and county planning, the opportunity to upgrade the road infrastructure to include systems such as flyovers, diverging diamond interchanges. The only alternative that is viable and more cost effective in the long term is a Gondola system.
Cities around the United States and around the world are viewing Gondola systems as a viable, safe, and affordable transportation system that can connect low-density areas to high-density areas such as city centers.
With adequate planning, routes can easily be built to allow areas such as East Gainesville to have greater accessibility to premium amenities such as Butler Town Center without spending an hour or more navigating the bus system. Another route would allow residents of Haile Plantation and Oakmont to commute to the University of Florida campus or our hospital systems, reducing vehicular emissions and freeing up parking spots to those that need it most including the disabled, veterans, and visitors to the Greater Gainesville area.
This is a petition to the Alachua County, the City of Gainesville, and interested parties such as the University of Florida to conduct a feasibility analysis, and move forward with the planning of a Gondola network.
Let us move Alachua County forward towards a brighter future for generations to come.
